Another Purple vs. Purple Madness

When I first got into indie makeup I made a purchase from Dawn Eyes, a lovely little shop with beautiful and affordable shadows.  Don’t be fooled by the website, these shadows are fantastic.  As a purple shadow gal, I love her purples!  A Redditor recently messaged me about a comment I made in a thread saying that I own both Purple Madness and Another Purple.  She was flip flopping between the two and I was able to swatch them to help her decide! Now, these swatches are here for anyone else that may be interested in the shadows.

All photo’s are taken with my natural daylight lamp due to the ugliness of winter outside.  They are swatched over Glitter Glue, bare skin, and NYX Primer.  I found that these shadows actually performed better over the normal primer and the Glitter Glue made them more muted.  This is not usually the case with other shadows but the results are still very pretty.

Another Purple

Direct Natural Light L: Gitter Glue, M: Bare, R: Primer

This is a pretty colour described on the website as “A greyish lilac when applied dry, bursts into a bright shiny lilac over primer with subtle sparks of blue”. The online swatch is pretty accurate, especially as this is an incredibly difficult shadow to photograph.

The purple sheen leans pink with very subtle blue sparkle.  Over the Glitter Glue, the shadow is a softer grey purple-pink.

Over primer, the colour is more vibrant and the purple comes out a bit more.  The sparkles are there but the sheen of the purple steals the show, ensuring that the shadow isn’t a complete glitter bomb

This is a beautiful colour and easily my favourite of the Dawn Eyes shadows that I own.  Depending on how you use it, it can be a muted everyday colour or a show stopping purple.

Purple Madness

Direct Natural Light L: Gitter Glue, M: Bare, R: Primer

This purple is described as a “pearlescent greyish lavender shimmering with fine pink, blue and violet sparks.”  The online swatch of this shadow is lightly more silver.

This shadow is a dusty purple and for those of you looking for a more silvery shade, this is one to pick up! The sparkles are subtle but really make this shade memorable.

Over the primer, this shadow is also more intense than it is over the Glitter Glue but less so than Another Purple. The shadow over Glitter Glue is more grey and over the primer it is more purple.

Those sparkles though!  They add extra dimension and drama to the shadow. This is a pretty silver purple with a little extra oomph.

Summary

These shadows can be found in the Clearance Section for $2.75 and the shipping is really reasonable (orders over $10 are free in the US).  Dawn ships things super fast and these products have a tendency to sneak through customs like ninjas too! I don’t know how she does it, but I have never had to wait longer than a week for my shadows to get to me in Canada.

The shadows are pigmented and easy to use. If you’re waffling over which one to choose, for $2.75, I’d pick up both of them! Unless you’re on a low/no buy…then don’t.  These have been available since this summer when I purchased them so don’t let the clearance section fool you.  Dawn also will recreate a shadow she no longer sells if you ask, so if these shadows do happen to disappear there is always a way to get them.
